PURPOSE: A microwave oven and control method thereof are provided to cook in an optimal condition by automatically controlling the output of a magnetron according to the passage of the cooking time. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven comprises a selection part(20) selecting the function, a magnetron(30) for cooking by the high-frequency heating, a cooking information memory(40) storing an optimal cooking information about a variable output relation of the magnetron according to the passage of the cooking time, and a control part(10) controlling the magnetron on the basis of the optimal cooking information of the cooking information memory according to the selection of the selection part. Thereby, cooking in an optimal condition is performed.
