BULKY FLEXIBLE PAPER AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A process for producing a printing paper through sheet forming from fibers which comprises using a bulking softener which is liquid or has a melting point of 40~C or lower and which has an HLB of 6 or lower, e.g., a polyhydric alcohol/higher fatty acid ester or a long-chain alkylammonium salt, and drying the paper in a preheating period (the period to the time when the temperature of the wet paper becomes constant in the drying step) so as to elevate the paper surface temperature to a value higher by at least 10~C than the melting point of the bulking softener. Thus, a printing paper is produced which is satisfactorily bulky and is flexible.
