<p>A pre-slit septum (21), adapted to be compressed by an access port (43) of a device (41), allows for insertion of a tip (5) into the slit (27) while the slit (27) sealingly engages and closes around an outer surface of the inserted tip (5), in providing a leak-proof seal that is a barrier to contamination. Preferably, the elastomeric septum (21) further comprises an antimicrobial agent to inhibit microbial growth on septum surfaces. Also provided is a septum-access port assembly (41), adapted to sealing engage a tip, comprising an access port (43) adapted to receive and compress an elastomeric septum (21), and an elastomeric, pre-slit septum received in, held in position by, and compressed by the access port (43).</p> |
