<p>A method and device for quantifying and monitoring the percentage of ligament function by externally measuring anatomical reference points using electronic sensors which have been added to existing ligament stress devices and then applying mathematical models to the measurements obtained by the sensors. The extremity to be tested is positioned in a stress device (10) and a force is applied to the joint of interest. The displacement caused by the applied force is read by incremental encoders (12) and a signal is generated. An interface board (14) processes the force displacement signal and sends the information to a computer processor (16). The computer processor analyses the information using trigonometr ic functions to determine the percentage of ligament function and presents the information in a clinical format.</p> |
