An apparatus is provided for sealing closed a succession of bags attached in an end-to-end manner. The apparatus includes a base (21), and a cradle (12) located in the upper portionof the base (21) for receiving the bags. The apparatus further includes a sealing and cutting mechanism for sealing closed the opening (3) of a bag (2) and for cutting the sealed bagfrom the remainder of the bags. The sealing and cutting mechanism comprises an operating handle (8) for operating the sealing and cutting mechanism and a pressing bar (16), for facilitating sealing and cutting of the bag. The operating handle (8) and the pressing bar (16) are associated with one another in a manner such that when the operating handle (8) is pulled down by the user, the pressing bar (16) presses the bag (2) against a sealing member (17) so as to seal closed the bag (2). The pressing bar (16) also presses the bag (2) against a cutting member (18) so as to cut the sealed bag from the remainder of the bags. |
