PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent an illegal copy of image information. SOLUTION: There is provided a superimposing processing portion 24 supplied with a reproduced video signal obtained by a reproduced signal processing circuit 23 connected to a reproducing head 22 scanning a recording track of a video tape 21. The superimposing processing portion 24 output the reproduced video signal with copyright information S1 and generation information S2 superimposed as copy protecting information. The superimposing processing portion 24 detects the copy protecting information superimposed with the reproduced video signal obtained through the reproduced signal processing circuit 23 through a copy protecting information detecting portion 25, produces new copy protecting information based on the copy protecting information detected through a control portion 26, and also converts the new copy protecting information into the copyright information S1 and the generation information S2 through an encoder 27, to superimpose the copyright information S1 and the generation information S2 on the reproduced video signal as the copy protecting information through a superimposing circuit 28.
