An information reception recording/reproducing apparatus, as shown in fIG. 1, comprises a compression coding disable signal sensing section (102) for sensing information indicating whether an input analog video/audio signal is capable or incapable of compression coding and a recording/reproducing management section (104) for managing the recording/reproducing condition of the compression coding data on the basis of the information acquired from the compression coding disable signal sensing section (102) so as to manage the recording/reproducing condition of the compression coding data. Thus, the problem in data reproduction that an image is distrubed and that the system freezes in a worst case depending on the conditions of an input analog video/audio signal can be prevented.
