The method includes starting and stopping the combustion engine and after starting combustion, fuel is fed as a function of the temperature difference between the hot source and the cold source, the motor conditions and the required couple. The course of the piston as a function of the torque needed and the output force of the engine, is estimated, as a function of this temperature difference. During a braking phase, the course of the piston is controlled so as to cause the engine to recover energy by enhancing the temperature difference between the hot and cold sources.
