PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid in a high yield by reacting 2-naphthol with carbon dioxide without using a solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid comprises reacting 2-naphthol cesium salt or rubidium salt with carbon dioxide under conditions to make carbon dioxide in a supercritical or subcritical state.
