PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogen-containing polymer composition stabilized by a latent mercaptan and a mixture of a zinc carboxylate and zinc chloride. SOLUTION: This polymer composition which is normally susceptible to heat-induced deterioration, comprises a halogen-containing polymer and the deterioration product of a blocked mercaptan present during the processing of the composition at an elevated temperature; wherein the deterioration product contains a free mercaptan, and the blocked mercaptan has a structure expressed by the structural formula. The polymer composition includes from about 0.005 to about 2 phr of a mixture of zinc chloride and a zinc carboxylate, and from about 0 to about 10 phr of at least one co-stabilizer selected from the group consisting of an epoxy compound and an organic phosphate, based on the weight of the polymer.
