METHOD FOR PURIFYING ETHYLIDENE-TETRACYCLODODECENE BY CONTINUOUS DISTILLATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple purification method capable of obtaining ethylidene-tetracyclododecene(EdTCD) in high yield and in high purity by subjecting a crude EdTCD fraction to distillation. SOLUTION: A method for continuously purifying EdTCD is carried out as follows: the reaction liquid obtained by mixing cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene with 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (EBH) under heating is subjected to distillation to obtain a crude EdTCD fraction; subsequently the fraction is supplied to a distillation purification column; and the fraction is treated by a continuous distillation under such specified conditions that the content of EBH in the purified EdTCD fraction obtained from the distillation purification column becomes <1%.
