PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closed type DC/AC cooling tower being simple in constitution and capable of preventing moisture in air discharged from the cooling tower from being brought into a white smoke state when an outside air temperature is decreased. SOLUTION: Process water returned from the load side is introduced in a heat exchanger 7 and cooled by scattering water and air introduced by a blower 9, and cooled by direct contact of scattering water with air in a filler 6. In the so formed closed type DC/AC cooling tower, an upper water tank 3 is divided into a plurality of sections, branched scattering water piping 14 are interconnected, and bypass piping 15 connected to a lower water tank 11 through a valve 16 is situated at least at single scattered water piping 14a to interconnect a branch part 23 and the upper water tank 3.
