PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy excellent in castability and having high strength and ductility. SOLUTION: This aluminum alloy has a composition containing, by mass, 2.0 to 4.0% Mg, 0.6 to 1.2% Mn and 0.5 to 1.1% Fe, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities so as to control the total to 100%. By suitably selecting the compositional ranges of Mg, Mn and Fe, Al is first crystallized out as primary crystals from a liquid phase containing Fe, and, next, Al (Mn, Fe) compounds are finely crystallized out, so that the high strength and ductility of the aluminum alloy can be realized consistently.
