PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water-based coating compositions capable of forming coating films which have high surface gloss and excel in stain resistance and its durability. SOLUTION: The water-based coating compositions comprise 100 pts. synthetic resin (e.g. a fluorine-containing monomer/alkyl vinyl ether copolymer), 0.1-50 pts. alkoxysilane having a hydrophilic organic group and/or its condensate (e.g. a trimethoxysilane having a polyoxyethylene chain), 0.01-20 pts.wt. alkoxysilane having a fluorine-containing organic group and/or its condenstate (e.g. perfluorooctylethyltri-methoxysilane), and 0-50 pts. other alkoxysilane and/or its condenstate (e.g. partial condensate of tetraethoxysilane).
