PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion control device for a compression ignition type engine capable of more accurately controlling a combustion start timing. SOLUTION: This combustion control device is provided with a valve mechanism 34 composed such that the suction and exhaust openings 30 and 50 in a combustion chamber 20 are opened or closed by the suction and exhaust valves 32 and 52, and enables autoignition by compressing an air/fuel mixture. In this case, the timing of generating autoignition is controlled by controlling a pressure differential between the upstream side of the suction opening 30 and the inside of the combustion chamber.
