PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a precision microlens and microlens array is provided to be capable of making high sag lens molds having a high accuracy, a high degree of uniformity and a nearly 100% fill factor. CONSTITUTION: A microlens mold cavity(12) is formed, wherein the forming step includes milling a substrate(14) with a hardened cutting member such that the microlens mold cavity(12) has a predetermined configuration. A molten polymeric material is injected into the microlens mold cavity(12). By hardening the molten polymeric material in the microlens mold cavity(12), a microlens having a predetermined configuration is formed. Then, the microlens is removed from the microlens mold cavity(12).
