The coupling device (2) has cooperating coupling elements (3,4) fitted to the undersides of both stools or chairs to be coupled, for movement along guide rails into contact with end stops (10), with their projecting free ends clipped together. The end stops are provided by U-shaped clips fitted into different positions relative to the coupling elements, at least one of the coupling elements provided with a slider (15) for securing the clipped coupling elements together.
