[Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] Relates to a flash-light lamp, more particularly for photographic purposes, in which a light generator of easily inflammable sheet or wire form is disposed in a hermetically closed glass vessel containing oxygen. According to the invention, an oxygen filling or charge at atmospheric pressure or higher is employed, the number in cubic centimetres representing the space in the preferably tubular vessel being not greater than the number representing the weight of the light generator in milligrams. As shown in Fig. 1, the lamp consists of a cylindrical glass vessel 1 having a content of 40 ccms. and in which is inserted a bundle of aluminium or magnesium sheet 3 weighing 40 mg. This vessel is closed at its lower end by melting in a glass bead 4 through which pass the current leads 5, 6 which carry the ignition wire 8 covered with an ignition pellet 7. A socket 10 is cemented in known manner on the neck 9 of the vessel 1. If desired, each end of the vessel may be closed by means of a glass bead. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction of lamp comprising a metallic screw-threaded sleeve 11, an insulating body 12 and a metallic bottom contact plate 13. The leads 5, 6 carrying the ignition wire 8 and pellet 7 are fused into a glass bead 4, the end of the wire 5 being soldered to the plate 13 whilst the end of the wire 6 is soldered to the sleeve 11. The pellet 7, wire 8, leads 5, 6 and socket 11, 12, 13 thus form a unit which is partially filled with a cement 14. The open end of the vessel 1 containing the foil 3 and oxygen charge is pressed into the socket whilst the cement is in a plastic condition, the cement eventually hardening to form a vacuum-tight closure of the body 1. According to a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the bead 4 is dispensed with, the lower end of the vessel 1 is threaded so as to screw into the socket 11 and a fusible wire enclosed in a small glass tube is inserted in one of the leads 5, 6. The body 1, which may be provided with an external or internal coating to prevent danger of shattering, may consist of coloured glass or glass allowing the passage of ultra-violet rays. Instead of providing an electrically ignited pellet 7, the foil &c. 3 may be ignited by a frictionally produced spark or bv the introduction into the vessel 1 of a chemical reacting with the oxygen charge and forming a flame, said chemical being initially enclosed in a small chamber in the vessel 1.
