PURPOSE: An optical system is provided to reduce size of optical system and obtain a thin optical system by employing a castor prism, which is easy to process and small in size. CONSTITUTION: An optical system comprises first to third reflection type liquid crystal panels(66R,66G,66B) for displaying corresponding images by using red, green and blue lights emitted from a castor prism(54); a projection lens(68) for expanding and projecting an incident light; a light source(56) for generating a light; a focusing lens unit for preventing diffusion of light emitted from the light source; and a polarizing beam splitter prism(64) for reflecting the light emitted from the focusing lens unit, permitting the light to be incident to the castor prism, and the light emitted from the castor prism to the projection lens. The castor prism separates the incident light emitted from the polarizing beam splitter, permits the light to be incident to first to third reflection type liquid crystal panels, and permits the light for the corresponding color to be incident to the polarizing beam splitter. |
