PURPOSE: A defrosting device of multi-split type air conditioner and driving method of the same are provided to prevent icing on an outdoor heat exchanger not working and to improve efficiency of heat exchange of an outdoor heat exchanger working. CONSTITUTION: A device comprises an icing preventive device and a control device to prevent icing on outdoor heat exchanger when one of indoor units stops during heating operation. The icing preventive device is installed on inlet pipes(53,63) and discharge pipes(54,64) of a first outdoor heat exchanger(57a) and a second outdoor heat exchanger(57b). The control device controls operation of the icing preventive device according as a first indoor unit(70) and a second indoor unit(80) work or not.
