Improved prosthetic components and a method for assembly therefor are described wherein the prosthesis (100) comprises prefabricated modular components including a socket adapter, shank (125) or pylon (205), a keel (115), and a foot (120). The method for preparation of the improved prosthesis (100) reduces the time required for prosthesis preparation over that of the prior art, and includes the steps of making a cast of the remaining leg stump (105) and forming a socket (110) therefor; placing the socket (110) in an alignment jig; assembling modular pieces including a prefabricated keel (115), pylon (205), and socket adapter (210); attaching the socket adapter (210) to the socket; draping a final coating of copolymer on the prosthesis (100); and removing the pylon (205) and socket adapter (210) from the interior of the prosthesis (100).
