PURPOSE: A method for controlling vertical wind direction control member of air conditioner for air cleaning only mode is provided to prevent cold air from directly getting to a user on air cleaning only mode in winter by controlling angle of the vertical wind direction control member. CONSTITUTION: A method includes a mode selection step(S31,S32); and an upward setup step(S35,S36,S37,S38). The mode selection step is for a user to select a mode out of air cleaning only mode, vertical wind direction control mode and an outlet opening and closing mode. The upward setup step is to control angle of a driving motor to set up angle of a vertical wind direction control member upward if the air cleaning only mode is selected in the mode selection step.
