A linear compressor comprising a cylinder part (10) including a cylinder bor e (71) and a piston (4) disposed in, and slidable within the bore (71). A main spring (15) connects the cylinder part (10) directly of indirectly with the piston (4). A connecting rod (47) connects between the main spring (15) and the piston (4). A stator (5) has an air gap through which the connecting rod (47) passes. At least one armature pole (2) is located along the connecting rod (47).
