The device has a clamping element (18) with drive and a suction block (14), for e.g. a continuous cast strut (10) of aluminum. The drive has a carrier (38) with magnetic or magnetizeable material (34). The suction block, or a part (30) connected to it, has similar material (32) in an area facing the clamping element. Suction block or clamping element move on a longitudinal guide (22). The clamping element has a channel (24) to accommodate the carrier, which is formed as a piston (26) and moves within the channel. The carrier is part of a drive motor.
