During normal friction/wear a blackish powder/dust is given off that accumulates on the rim. At a certain stage the disk/drum will get in contact with the first colour fhase in the friction element mixture that, for example purpose is orange. This colour will serve as a warning to the operator, giving him approximatly a thousand kilometres to replace the pads/shoes as a least measure the disk/drum will get into contact with the second colour phase in the friction element mixture that for example purposes is red. During this phase the friction pad will give off a red powder/dust that will accumulate on the rim. This will serve as a final warning to the operator, telling him that the brake pad/shoes are absolete and he has approximately one hundred kilometres left before there will be friction between the disk/drum and bracking plate. |
