PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter control method, providing compatibility between durability of a starter and quickness of an engine start, even when idle-stop is carried out. SOLUTION: This starter control method is a method for controlling a pinion, a motor, and an engine starter having a magnet switch having a coil and a plunger, causing the pinion to protrude toward a ring gear. Energization to the coil of the magnet switch is reduced, after a prescribed time from energization initiation. By this, build up of moving speed of the pinion is fast, it quickly reaches the ring gear, and quickness of the engine start is secured. Meanwhile, since the acceleration of the pinion is reduced by current reduction and the pinion abuts gently against the ring gear, damages to the pinion are prevented, and durability of the starter is improved.
