摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize practical use of a cup reflection type light emitting diode by easily forming a reflecting mirror having an optically sufficient mirror surface by using a commertially available metal plate. SOLUTION: In this reflection type light emitting diode 1, a recessed reflecting mirror 5 which is formed by press-working a metal plate is attached on lead parts 3a, 3b, 4 which supply power to a light emitting element 2 and sealed with a transparent epoxy resin 6. The reflecting mirror 5 is formed almost in a paraboloid of revolution by a method wherein the surface of a copper alloy plate is made a mirror surface by coining and subjected to a press working in a recessed type and a recessed surface is treated by silver plating. A light emitting element 2 is positioned on the focus of the reflecting mirror 5. The reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror 5 is finished to a level of surface roughness which is almost optically sufficient, scattering of a light is remarkably reduce, and all the light generated from the light emitting element 2 is reflected by the reflecting mirror 5 in the direction parallel to the axis of the paraboloid of revolution. Thereby the external radiation efficiency is high, and the degree of freedom of design regarding light radiation characteristic such as light distribution characteristic can be improved. As a result, high luminous intensity can be realized.
