PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring camera capable of recognizing situations around it from sounds by detecting any abnormal or peculiar sound generated around the camera, and identifying its kind. SOLUTION: If an abnormal condition such as a fire or impact arises around the monitoring camera 2, its sound is collected by a sound sensor 7. The sound is amplified by a sound amplifying circuit 8 and the kind of the sound is detected by a detection circuit 9. The detection output of the detection circuit 9 is superimposed by a superimposing circuit 6 on the blanking period of an output video signal of an image processing circuit 5 or the like and transmitted to a monitoring center (not shown in the figure) in the form of an output image signal 17 of the camera 2.
