PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, capable of detecting a failure of a sensor for giving triggers to a heater, before starting an internal combustion engine body. SOLUTION: In this control device ECU for the internal combustion engine provided with an internal combustion engine body mounted on a vehicle and a heater H operated by the output from a specified sensor 4 as a trigger, at least before starting the internal combustion engine body, whether the heater H is operated is stored, and in the case of no stored operation of the heater H, failure of the sensor 4 is determined.
