The invention relates to a method for operating a control device for a gearing mechanism, especially a gearing mechanism for moving body parts on motor vehicles, such as a rod gearing mechanism for an automatic convertible top of a passenger car. In prior art drive systems, a failure of the power supply and/or of the hydraulic operating pressure can lead, for example, to an uncontrolled collapsing of the convertible top. This can cause significant damages to the convertible top and/or injuries to persons due to the fact that there is no clamping protection provided on prior art convertible tops. For this reason, the aim of the invention is to create an energy-saving and reliable method for setting, holding and terminating any intermediate position of a convertible top, and to provide a corresponding control as well as a convertible top. To this end, the invention enlists the use of a method involving the following steps: determining a drive signal for hydraulic valves for the transfer of the convertible top out of an intermediate position and into a stationary final position, and; outputting the drive signal to the hydraulic valves until the final position is attained. |
