A client server system for renting software through a network is provided in which the server functions to supply predetermined clients with the software to be executed by the clients while each of the clients functions to download desired software from the server to a virtual area of a virtual machine to execute it. The client has a resident management program that controls the downloading of software and the execution of the downloaded software.
