The hopper is positioned above a dispersion head and has a device (7) for pre-orientating the flat wood strands. A pivoting conveyor (4) or a parallel conveyor is located under the pre-orientation device, to distribute the pre-orientated evenly over the complete hopper width. The pre-orientation device has at least one orientation roller or at least one disc plate roller, to orientate the strands in longitudinal and cross directions relative to ejection direction.
