Process for the preparation of l-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol by the reduction of 3,4-dimethoxyacetophenone of formula II, characterized by, that the carbonyl group of 3,4-dimethoxyacetophenone is reduced by hydrogen in presence of protonic solvent, preferably in aqueous medium, under the conditions of catalytic hydrogenation. 2. Process according to Claim 1, characterized by, that the reduction is carried out by using Raney-nickel catalyst. 3. Process according to Claims 1-2, characterized by, that as for catalyst preferably neutral-weakly basic (pH 7-9), promoted Raney-nickel is used, in an amount of 0,05-0,5 part of mass. 4. Process according to Claim 1 characterized by, that the reduction is performed at a temperature between 25-100 degree C, preferably between 50-100 degree C. 5. Process according to Claim 1, characterized by, that the reduction is performed by using hydrogen under a pressure of 0-20 bar, preferably 5-10 bar.
