<p>The present invention is directed methods for reducing or preventing ischemic damage in the central nervous system of a mammal. The methods comprise administering to the nasal cavity of the mammal a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of IGF-I or biologically active variant thereof. The IGF-I or variant thereof is absorbed through the nasal cavity and transported into the central nervous system of the mammal in an amount effective to reduce or prevent ischemic damage associated with an ischemic event. The methods are useful in treating a mammal that has experienced an ischemic event or that is at risk of experiencing such an event.</p> |
