PURPOSE: An Internet phone and a method for controlling the same are provided to integrate and manage a generic telephone, a wireless phone, a portable phone, an Internet PC to PHONE, a PC to PC operating system, e-mail, and various messaging services through an Internet phone management server using the serial number of an Internet phone. CONSTITUTION: An Internet phone(100) is comprised of a communication part(110), a voice processing part(120), a dial part(130), a control part(140), a ring processing part(150), a hook switch(160), a DTMF generation part(170), a handset(180), an interface part(190), and a memory part(200). The communication part(110) makes communication executed between a PC and the control part(140). The voice processing part(120) processes a voice from a PC or the interface part(190) and transmits it to the handset(180). The dial part(130) receives a dial signal inputted by a user. The control part(140) controls the execution of the Internet phone function and generic phone function of the Internet phone(100). The ring processing part(150) detects and processes a ring signal inputted from an exchange or a PC. The hook switch(160) detects the present state of the handset(180) and a ring of a PSTN and informs the control part(140) of them. The DTMF generation part(170) transmits the data transmitted from the control part to the PSTN as a DTMF signal. The handset(180) converts the user's voice and transmits it to the control part(140). The interface part(190) converts a digital signal, inputted from a PC and processed by the control part(140), into an analog signal so that it can be outputted from the handset(180). The memory part(200) stores the intrinsic serial number of the Internet phone(100). In case that the Internet phone(100) is interfaced with a PC, the memory makes the intrinsic serial number transmitted to the PC.
