PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a root area limiting agent which exhibits an excellent effect of limiting the area of root elongation without inhibiting growth of plant in raising of seedling and cultivation, consequently does not delay growth of seedling after transplantation, has high safety of crops and humans and animals and is more inexpensively producible. SOLUTION: This root area limiting agent comprises at least one kind of a copper fatty acid salt represented by the general formula (RCOO)2Cu (R is a 5-13C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group or straight-chain or branched-chain alkenyl group) as an active ingredient.
