PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a low-malodorous urethane resin under consideration for environmental protection with excellent printability such as water and hot water resistances and to obtain a printing ink consisting essentially of the urethane resin. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alcohol-soluble urethane resin comprises reacting a linear urethane prepolymer having isocyanate groups bound to carbons of a secondary and/or a tertiary aliphatic hydrocarbon at both terminals in a specific proportion with a diamine in an alcoholic solvent and extending the chain. The printing ink is characterized by comprising the urethane resin as a binder resin.
