METHOD FOR PRODUCING SCAGLIOLA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing scagliola by which the impact resistance of scagliola is enhanced to make it unnecessary to dispose a reinforcing board or the like to a product formed from the scagliola, the product can be made thin and lightweight, its transparency is increased and its appearance is improved. SOLUTION: A styrene-crosslinked vinyl ester resin is blended with additives such as a filler to prepare a resin composition and this resin composition is molded and cured to produce scagliola. When the resin composition is prepared, a composite resin obtained by adding a diallyl phthalate monomer to the styrene-crosslinked vinyl ester resin is used so as to produce scagliola having superior shock resistance. It is not necessary to complement the strength of the resulting scagliola by forming a reinforcing board made of wood, an FRP reinforcing layer or the like on the rear face of the scagliola.
