PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a glass preform uniform in deposition ratio distribution. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing a glass preform used as the primary material of an optical fiber has a plurality of burners aligned at prescribed intervals along the longitudinal direction of a starting rod for the glass preform so as to form a deposit as the base material of the glass preform by depositing fine glass particles on the starting rod while moving back and forth in a part of the overall length of the starting rod along the longitudinal direction of the starting rod, flow rate regulators, at least one of which is connected to each of the plurality of burners so as to regulate the flow rate of gaseous starting material for the fine glass particles supplied to the corresponding burner, and control parts connected to the respective flow rate regulators so as to separately control the plural flow rate regulators. |
