PURPOSE: A method for automatic mode conversion and a device thereof are provided to carry out the mode conversion of a radio set automatically into a tape or a CD playing mode or into an initial mode after the mode conversion into the playing mode according to the intensity of the received electric field. CONSTITUTION: A method for automatic mode conversion includes the steps of carrying out mode conversion if the intensity of an electric field signal received from a radio part is weak, determining whether a tape or a CD is secured in a system when carrying out the mode conversion, determining whether the tape or the CD is in the standby state, generating a beep sound three times and carrying out mute operation if the tape or the CD is not secured in the system, playing the tape or the CD simultaneously with the mode conversion if the tape or the CD is secured in the system and in the standby state, checking a received electric field level periodically after the carrying out the playing, and carrying out the mode conversion to the initial mode after generating the beep sound once if the received electric field level is higher than a predetermined level.
