PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having a negativeΔεand a smallΔn at the same time, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound and a liquid crystal display element constituted by using the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal compound expressed by formula (1) [one of A1, A2, A3 and A4 has a structure expressed by formula (2), and the rest of them are each (halogen-substituted) trans-cyclohexane-1,4-diyl, cyclohexene-1,4- diyl, pyridine-2,5-diyl, pyrimidine-2,5-diyl, pyridazine-3,6-diyl, trans-1,3-dioxane-2,5- diyl or 1,4-phenylene]. Concrete examples include 2,2-difluoro-3- methyl-6-(trans-4(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl)-3,4-dihydropyran and the like.
