PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtration unit in which packing density of active carbon can be elevated without using a binder, or the like, and filtration efficiency of such a toxic compound as residual chlorine and trihalomethanes is high and there exists no possibility of generating leakage during filtration and pressure loss is not large and which is compact and is easily manufactured. SOLUTION: An active carbon tank 7 in which particulate active carbon 1 is packed and original water flowed in is filtered and drained and a pressing member 4 which is provided in this active carbon tank 7 and compresses the particulate active carbon 1 and has an apparent density of 0.067-0.18 g/cm3 are provided.
