PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape cartridge which can be produced with higher yield and at a lower manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: One magnetic tape reel, around which a magnetic tape is wound, is stored in the inside of a cartridge case consisting of upper and lower cartridges. In the leader tape of the magnetic tape, whose outer end part is joined with the leader tape which engages with the engagement means of a recording and reproducing device, the tip part of the leader tape is abutted on and joined with the tip part of the magnetic tape, and hot forming is carried out to the tip part of the leader tape to give a tapered shape.
