PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thrust bearing for toroidal type continuously variable transmission, capable of shortening a machining time of a surface grinding of an outer ring and an inner ring and reducing a cost by an extension of a life of a grinding wheel. SOLUTION: In the thrust bearing for the toroidal type continuously variable transmission, a thrust bearing 7 for supporting load in the thrust direction applied to a power roller 6 is constituted by the outer ring 8 and the inner ring 9 having rolling grooves 8a, 9a on a surface opposed to each other; and a plurality of rolling bodies 10 rollably provided in the rolling grooves between the outer ring and the inner ring. Annular grooves 23, 24 as an escape part are provided on flat surfaces 21, 22 on the opposite side to the rolling grooves before surface grinding of the outer ring and/or the inner ring is carried out.
