PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the defect where sectional areas of a friction damper and an earthquake-resistant and damping brace has to be large and hence cost is increased in an earthquake-resistant design, in which a compression force is considered for strength design, because the bearing tension and compressive force of the friction damper are equalized in the friction damper installed to the brace diagonally fixed to a conventional building. SOLUTION: In the friction damper, an upper-side member and a lower-side member fixed at relatively displaced two points respectively are superposed slidably through a friction surface, mutually parallel inclined planes converging to the base end sides are formed to the superposing sections respectively, and a section between both-side inclined planes is pushed by a shaft member to vertically extend to the inclined planes. The shaft member is composed of a bolt and a nut, and elastic bodies are interposed among the nut and the inclined planes.
