PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling bearing for the spindle of a machine tool having a long service life and excellent surface-damage resistance. SOLUTION: At least the race ring of a rolling bearing for the spindle of a machine tool is composed of steel containing alloy elements of, by mass, 0.6 to 1.3% C, 0.3 to 3.0% Si, 0.2 to 1.5% Mn, <=0.03% P, <=0.03% S, 0.3 to 5.0% Cr, 0.1 to 3.0% Ni, <=0.050% Al, <=0.003% Ti, <=0.0015% O and <=0.015% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, in which tempering treatment is performed after quenching treatment or after carbo-nitriding treatment, and whose surface hardness after the tempering treatment is >=58 HRC. |
