PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inputting characters by using ten keys capable of easily inputting various characters by using 11 pieces of keys constituted of at least numbers ranging from 0 to 9 and # and keys constituted of a small number of function keys, and to provide the ten keys. SOLUTION: On one coordinate axis, 11 pieces of keys constituted of numbers ranging from 0 to 9 and # are arranged and on the other coordinate axis, 11 pieces of keys constituted of numbers ranging from 0 to 9 and # are arranged and characters and numbers and symbols are assigned to 121 pieces of areas at the intersections of the respective coordinate axes. Then, the numbers on one coordinate axis are inputted as first hits and the numbers on the other coordinate axis are inputted as second hits so that KANA (the Japanese syllabary), HIRAGANA (the cursive form of KANA), numbers, Roman characters, punctuations, and symbols can be inputted.
