A method, system and apparatus for an airborne relay for wireless communications is provided. A mobile airborne subsystem (125) receives signals from wireless devices and relays the signals to a base station (150). In an embodiment of the invention, the signals between the airborne subsystem and the wireless devices lie in the cellular band and the signals between the airborne subsystem and the base station lie in the X-band. A translator is provided on the airborne subsystem for the conversion between bands. The antennae on the airborne relay are steered to maintain a constant pattern on the ground despite movement of the aircraft. |
