PURPOSE: An apparatus for converting the size of an optical mode is provided to remarkably reduce an optical loss in the entire optical coupling process in which output light from a light source device is transferred to optical fibers through the converter, by installing a light waveguide of a taper structure at both sides of a light input unit besides a channel-type light waveguide in the center of the light input unit. CONSTITUTION: A buffer layer(402) is stacked on a substrate(401). A lower waveguide(403) is formed in a predetermined region on the buffer layer. A lower clad layer(404) is formed on the lower waveguide and the buffer layer. An upper waveguide(405) is formed on the lower clad layer, corresponding to the lower waveguide and having a ramified light input unit. An upper clad layer(406) is formed on the upper waveguide and the lower waveguide.
