PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress lowering of throughput when recovery processing of a recording head is performed during recording operation. SOLUTION: In an ink jet recorder comprising a plurality of full-line type ink jet recording heads each having a recording element array corresponding to the width of a recording medium, a numeric value related to power being supplied to the recording head is calculated when recording data requiring a plurality of sheets of recording medium is received, and when a decision is made that the numeric value related to power is larger than a specified value, carriage is controlled by setting the distance between a plurality of recording media such that the numeric value related to power is not larger than the specified value, and if the distance between the recording sheets is larger than a normal distance (S302), a recovery processing to be executed is determined from a plurality of types of recovery processing based on a dot count delivered from the recording head (S305, S309), and the determined recovery processing is executed during carriage of a plurality of recording media. |
